Northern Illinois Huskies Basketball Recruiting: Huskies pick up 4-star guard

While Northern Illinois didn't have the type of season they wanted on the court, they started the offseason on a huge note.Four-star guard Marshawn Wilsonannounced on Twitter tonight that he will be joining the NIU program:

Wilson, who hails from Oakdale, Minnesota, picked the Huskies over reported offers from the likes of Wisconsin, Colorado State, Creighton, and Northern Iowa. All of those schools have really good basketball programs, so Wilson's commitment to the Huskies shows how much he believes this is a program on the rise.

From watching a few of his highlights, it seems that Wilson's biggest strength is getting to the rim. The dunks were impressive, especially from a 6-foot-2 guard. Wilson's attacking ability will only help him succeed at the next level.

Fortunately for Wilson, no one is really ahead of him at the shooting guard position.Aaron ArmsteadandAnthony Johnsonboth exhausted their eligibility this season, so Wilson should start from day one. That was likely a huge factor in his commitment, as those other programs may have had him sit for a few years before getting a lot of playing time.

Wilson has had a bunch of accolades come in recently, includesMinneapolis-St. Paul Pioneer PressPlayer of the Year. He was also named a finalist for Minnesota's Mr. Basketball award. Finally Wilson was named to theAP All-State teamin Minnesota.

One key link in Wilson's commitment to Northern Illinois could be incoming freshman Levi Bradley, a three-star 6-foot-7 forward from Milwaukee. Bradley and Wilson play on the same AAU team, Wisconsin United, and the future running mate was quick to give his congratulations on Twitter after Wilson's commitment:

With Bradley and now Wilson in tow, the Huskies have a very bright future. Another 6-foot-7 three-star recruit, Jaylen Key, will also be in the NIU rotation next season. Today's commitment along with the talented freshmen currently committed could bring about the start of a MAC Championship winning team, which the Huskie faithful have been waiting a long time for.
