2014 Ball State Basketball Recruiting: JUCO F Bikramjit Gill Commits to Cardinals

Ball State wasted little time with putting one of its newly gained scholarships to use.

Ball State's roster has taken some recent hits. Two prized members of the Cardinals' 2013 class decided to leave, transferring to other schools after just one season in Muncie.

With four seniors graduating, and four recruits signed already, head coach James Whitford found himself with two extra scholarships to work with and little more than a week to go before basketball's National Signing Day Well Whitford wasted little time to fill one of them.

According to VerbalCommits.com 6-foot-8 Canadian forward Bikramjit Gill verbally committed to the Cardinals Monday evening. The 210-pound wing currently plays at Owens Community College in Northwest Ohio, and just wrapped up his sophomore season. Owens has turned into a hotspot for JUCO prospects, and Gill is just the latest product the school has turned out.

Gill average just shy of a double-double this past season in Owen's fast-pace offense. His 15.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game helped lead Owens to 26 wins on the season. An athletic, long forward, Gill is not only a force on the glass, but can step outside and shoot. In a conference full of long, lanky stretch such as Ohio's Maurice Ndour, Gill provides BSU with some much needed offensive potential in a frontcourt depleted by graduation.

Forwards Majok Majok andChris Bondare both gone, and in Majok's case the team is losing nearly 10 rebounds a game. Gill isn't the physical presence that either Majok or Bond were. He's lighter, thinner and has a more compact frame. But he's quick, knows how to produce buckets, either from outside or slashing, and should see significant playing time right away.

Gill, who will be eligible right away and has two seasons remaining, joins a class that has already signed four incoming freshman. Guards Jeremie Tyler and Francis Klapway, and forwards Sean Sellers and Rashaun Richardson have all signed during the early signing period.
